WHAT IT IS

Optimizing surgery results with healthy eyes

A healthy eye is extremely important when it comes to a successful cataract or laser surgery outcome. We recommend treating all ocular surface issues prior to surgery, since severe cases of ocular surface disease can raise chances of infection after surgery. Your optometrist may prescribe eye drops or ointments to control inflammation and fight infection. You may be prescribed artificial tears to help improve the ocular surface.

At eye. Optometry, we offer a package of treatments to help fully prepare your eyes for surgery. You can package together a deep cleansing and dry eyes treatment.

VISION CORRECTION

Cataracts is a disease of the eye that results in the clouding of the lens of the eyeball. Metabolic changes of the crystalline lens fibres over time lead to the development of the cataract and loss of transparency, causing impairment or loss of vision.

Typically associated with aging, cataracts generally occur later in life, as the lens structure within the human eye changes and gets older. Cataracts prevent clear images from appearing on the eye’s retina, causing mild, moderate, even severe blurred vision.

During the evaluation of your eye health, we will carefully examine your lens for signs of cataract formation. If a cataract is noticed and the clouding is causing visual disruption, your optometrist will refer you to a trusted and respected surgeon for surgery, which is the only known cure for cataracts. Our eye care practice will be there for you providing pre and post-cataract surgery care.

CATARACT SURGERY

Cataract surgery is the removal of the natural lens of the eye (crystalline lens) that has developed an opacification, which is referred to as a cataract.

During cataract surgery, a patient's cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens implant to restore the lens's transparency. The procedure is generally performed by an eye surgeon in a surgical centre or hospital, using local anesthesia, usually causing little or no discomfort to the patient.

Well over 90% of operations are successful in restoring useful vision, with a low complication rate. Phacoemulsification, a day-care, minimally invasive, small incision with quick post-op recovery has become the standard of care in cataract surgery all over the world.

VISION CORRECTION

LASIK & refractive surgery co-management

The doctors at eye. Optometry have extensive experience in the pre-operative evaluation and post-operative care of LASIK and other vision correction procedures. We will evaluate your eyes and discuss your visual goals to help determine if you are an appropriate candidate for LASIK, PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) or Cataract Refractive Technology.

If you have appropriate goals and there are no contraindications, we will recommend a pre-operative evaluation to determine suitability for refractive surgery. This evaluation includes counselling on refractive surgery options, eye dominancy testing, review of eye history and refractive stability, and medical evaluation of the cornea and current refractive status.

If the decision is made to proceed with surgery, a pre-surgery consult with a surgeon will be scheduled. After your surgery, our doctors will provide post-operative management, which includes multiple visits for medical evaluation and management of the vision and corneal healing. Evaluation of any additional needs – such as reading glasses, sunglasses, or enhancement laser procedures – is also included.

LASIK EYE SURGERY

LASIK is the most commonly performed vision correction/refractive surgery procedure. Other options are available as well, so we will help you find the ideal solution for your problem and partner with the best surgeon to perform your procedure.

Both nearsighted and farsighted people can benefit from the LASIK procedure. With nearsighted people, the goal is to flatten the too-steep cornea; with farsighted people, a steeper cornea is desired. Excimer lasers also can correct astigmatism by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more normal shape.

LASIK has some advantages over other vision correction procedures, including a relative lack of pain afterward, and the fact that good vision is usually achieved by the very next day.

TREATMENTS

Advanced technology for surgery prep

eye optometry - irpl technology - eye>e

IRPL® Technology

IRPL® technology is an eye treatment that uses a compact device called E>Eye to treat meibomian gland dysfunction, which has been identified as a principal cause of dry eye disease, since it  leads to insufficient production, or excessive evaporation of tears.

eye optometry - inmode radiofrequency

InMode Radiofrequency

InMode Radiofrequency treatment uses a medical technology called Forma-I to produce radiofrequency energy that softens the oils within clogged meibomian glands and improves oil flow, resulting in the elimination or lessening of dry eye symptoms.

eye optometry - ipl therapy

IPL Therapy

IPL Treatment is an innovative eye therapy that uses the cutting-edge Lumecca technology to treat dry eye syndrome. The device applies an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to the skin near the eyes, in order to unclog the meibomian glands and release any oil buildup, which results in symptom improvement.

eye optometry - zest treatment

ZEST Treatment

ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment) is developed to treat blepharitis, demodex and dry eyes, which are conditions often associated with poor hygiene of the eye area. It is an eyelid cleaning and debridement system that uses a natural okra-based gel, which causes no stinging, burning or discomfort.

“Dr. Vohora provides the most thorough eye exams and really takes time to explain her findings.

She was great with my elderly father as well, providing a referral to the best ocular plastic surgeon for his Ptosis repair and an eye surgeon for his DMEK (partial-thickness cornea transplant) surgery. She even followed up to make sure that we secured appointments, which really impressed me. I couldn’t ask for higher quality eye care.”
